Description

It's Getting Hot In Here is a study of the properties of water in its three different states - liquid, solid, gas, and tracked over a period of time where things are 'hotting up'. My initial idea was to reflect on the environmental crisis and the water is represented by the clarinet, cello and violin. The piano is the earth, with its 'iron core', it eventually gets disgruntled with 'us' and the piece ends with an intense period of activity as the earth 'sloughs us off'. Writing the piece during COVID has added another layer of poignancy to the subject matter and so the piece can be seen to reflect on that too.
