Part of On Track, UYMP's Education Volume for Key Stage 4.
The starting point for Duo was the simple Baroque device of suspension where two parts cross each other creating clashes which usually ascend or descend: one of the best examples occurs at the opening of Bach’s St. John Passion. The descending figure used at the opening of Duo recurs throughout in varied forms alongside other types of music that allow both players to be equal partners. I completed the work on Boxing Day 2005.
