BBC Music Magazine and Gramophone have recently published excellent reviews for Thomas Simaku’s work ‘Andante & Scherzo’ for Four Bassoons, which has just been released on Hyperion in Laurence Perkins selection of works for bassoons.

‘Scherzo’ was broadcast on ABC Australia on 16 June 2025.

 

"More piquant highlights include Albanian composer Thomas Simaku's folk-inspired Andante and Scherzo which zings with rhythmic vitality" writes Kate Wakeling in her review for the BBC Music Magazine.

Whereas Adrian Edwards, in his review published in the July 2025 edition of Gramophone highlights, "a composition by Thomas Simaku that gives full rein to the lugubrious sonorities of the bassoon in an Andante movement expelled by a Scherzo in party spirit."
