Thomas Simaku’s Soliloquy VI on BIS Records

Simaku’s Soliloquy VI for Soprano Saxophone is to be included on a CD released by the prestigious Swedish label BIS Records on 3 November 2023.

Entitled Solitary Poems – an international project consisting of works written during the Covid-19 pandemic by a number of composers from different countries – the Super Audio CD has been recorded by renowned Swedish saxophonist Anders Paulsson.

Simaku’s work Soliloquy VI – part of his ongoing cycle for various solo instruments – received its world premiere in Stockholm in November 2021. As the composer writes in his programme note, “Soliloquy VI is perhaps the most idiosyncratic work of the whole cycle, in that it concentrates on the expressive qualities of the singing saxophone, which accompanies itself with certain virtuosic passages covering the whole range of the instrument”.
