Robert Saxton Wigmore Hall Premiere and CD Release
28 April 2025
Students from the Purcell School premiere Robert Saxton’s Le Tombeau de Ravel at London’s Wigmore Hall on 2 May at 1pm. Robert is Composer in Association at the Purcell School and closely involved in the education of their young composers. His new work takes Ravel’s opera L'enfent et les sortilèges as a starting point.
Reflections in Time, released on 23 May on Metier, brings together three major works by Robert Saxton which push the expressive and structural boundaries of the string quartet and solo violin. Performed by the renowned Kreutzer Quartet and violinist Peter Sheppard Skærved, this album beautifully illustrates Saxton’s ability to fuse intellectual rigor with deeply evocative musical storytelling.
