Born in 1995, David McGregor grew up in the Lake District. As a young musician, he won a number of classes both as a performer and composer in the Mary Wakefield Competition and the South Cumbria Music Festival. Following this, he read Music at the University of Cambridge, studying composition with Joseph Phibbs, Cheryl France-Hoad and Richard Causton.
Graduating with a first-class degree in 2017, David went on to complete a composition masters at the University of York whilst a Choral Scholar at York Minster. Since graduating with a Distinction he has won a number of competitions, including the Robin Sanders Composition Competition in 2020 and the Harlow Chorus Composition Competition in 2022. His music and arrangements have been performed internationally, including in Wells, Guildford and Chichester Cathedrals.
