Aubade for soprano and five instruments.
Words taken from a French aube of the 12th or 13th century (anon).
Quant voi l'aube du jour venir,
Nulle rien ne doi tant hair;
Qu'elle fait de moi departir
Mon ami que j'aim par amour.
Or ne he rien tant com le jour,
Ami, qui me depart de vous.
When I see the dawn of the day approach,
There is nothing I hate so much;
For it takes from me
My lover, my dearest love.
I hate nothing so much as the daylight,
My Love, which separates me from you.
