In setting William Penn's elegiac text, I attempted to use the choir as a collective voice for the powerful expression of love which reaches beyond the boundaries of our mortal existence. This idea of reaching is reflected musically, embodied by dovetailing iterations of an ascending motif antagonised by the overall descending contour of the music.
