Sadie Harrison featured in GRAMOPHONE MAGAZINE September 2023

UYMP are absolutely delighted that house composer Sadie Harrison is the Featured Contemporary Composer in Gramophone Magazine September 2023. The article is written by Richard Whitehouse and is a detailed and extremely positive exploration of several of Sadie's CDs within the context of her hugely varied and well-regarded career.

Richard writes: "The relatively recent emphasis on women composers while long overdue in itself, brings to mind the salient issue of whether this is being done to promote those who happen not to be male, or rather because a fair proportion of those who are active today happen to be female. This issue is worth bearing in mind when considering the music of Sadie Harrison who, over the past quarter-century, has created a sizeable catalogue that, in its diversity of approach and range of expression, can easily hold its own against that by any of her peers but whose qualities are not necessarily definable in terms other than those which are intrinsic to the music itself. Fortunately, a representative cross-section of her output has now been recorded, enabling listeners to decide just what makes her work of such undoubted significance and relevance."
