NAXOS release Tinoco CD

The Naxos label is releasing a new CD of Luís Tinoco's orchestral music on 18th May 2013. Round Time comprises world premiere recordings of Round Time (for symphony orchestra with triple winds), and works for soprano and symphony orchestra ...from the depth of distance, Search Songs, and Canções do Sonhador Solitário (Songs from The Solitary Dreamer), performed by Ana Quintans, Yeree Suh & Raquel Camarinha (sopranos) respectively and the Orquestra Gulbenkian, conducted by David Alan Miller.

Simaku's 4th Quartet receives good review

Thomas Simaku's String Quartet No.4, performed on Wednesday 20th February at Sir Jack Lyons Concert Hall, York, by Quatuor Diotima, has received a very favourable review in the The Press. Performed alongside Beethoven's last quartet, Op.131, Simaku was applauded for his 'clever use of silence'.

Richard Orton

UYMP is saddened to announce the untimely death of one of its founder composers, Richard Orton. Richard, who was born in Derby in 1940, attended the Birmingham School of Music and Cambridge University then was a Reader in Music at the University of York until 1996. His output encompassed instrumental, vocal and orchestral writing, but he was also active in the fields of electroacoustic and computer music and in education.

Evis Sammoutis signs contract with UYMP

We are delighted to announce that Evis Sammoutis is to be published by UYMP. Evis is both a composer and accomplished guitarist. He was born in Cyprus in 1979, where he had his first music lessons at the age of six. By the age of sixteen, he had already obtained both the LRSM and the Performance and Teaching Diploma with distinction before moving to England in 1998 for university studies. Performances of his works have been received to excited acclaim in the UK and around the world.
